Band awards: Grand Forks Red River High School band students received awards in the EDC Solo Band Contest in Valley City, N.D. Double Star awards: Joe Aymond, Ryan Christianson, Ben Collings, Cody Griffin, Sarah Hanson, Brandon Howe, Brandon Hettwer, Carolyn Jones, Brittany Melcer, Paul Millette, Brenna Nakonechny, Taylor Pearson, Alex Pribula, Sarah Pugh, Cole Sherwood, Leo Thorp, Sasha Yearwood. Star awards: Karen Armstrong, Nathan Hemming, Ellen Larsen, Brady Laurin, Michaela Meland, Paul Millette, Josh Pierce, Vanessa Simms, Lauren Sullivan. Outstanding Performance Awards: RRHS students took home six of the seven Outstanding Performance Awards. They went to Ryan Christianson, Brittany Melcer, Brenna Nakonechny, Alex Pribula, Sarah Pugh and Leo Thorp.
'Cartoodles'
Exhibit opening in Minot: Taube Museum of Art Main Gallery will present "Cartoodles," an exhibit by Bill Nybo of Grafton, from Tuesday through Jan. 31. The Lower Gallery will feature pottery works as a preview for Taube's "Soup It Up!" fundraiser Feb. 5. Nybo became interested in art when he took a pottery class at UND. A public reception will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Jan. 14. Museum and gift shop hours: 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays or by special appointment.
