-- Sunday in the Empire: Walk the red carpet and join the Oscar night festivities without leaving Grand Forks by attending the second annual Empire Arts Center Red Carpet Celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Red-carpet partiers will be greeted on the red carpet by "paparazzi" clamoring for their photos; once inside, they will be able to watch the Academy Awards live on the Empire's big screen. They'll enjoy hors d'oeuvres, desserts and coffee, plus a cash bar. Prizes (including a necklace from River City Jewelers and gift certificates from businesses) will be given throughout the night for movie trivia contests, and for best dressed, best hair and best shoes. Live music: From students from Bel Canto Studio of Voice. Host: WDAZ TV's Terry Dullum. Photos: A professional photographer on hand to shoot your picture in your Oscar finery. Prize for winning the Predict the Oscars prize: A night at Canad Inn and more. Tickets: This is a fundraiser for the Empire; tickets will be $45, with a $5 discount for Empire members and UND students. -- Friday in downtown Grand Forks: Freedom Church in downtown Grand Forks will sponsor free live music and coffee at 8:30 p.m. Friday featuring Mike Powers of Minot and "Big Micah" Schott and Hannah Halvorson, both of Grand Forks. Location: 8 N. Third St., formerly Scott's Music.

'Big Lebowski'

n Saturday in Winnipeg: The Dude is coming back to Winnipeg! Fans of the 1998 cult movie "The Big Lebowski" will gather Saturday in the Garrick Centre for Lebowskipalooza 2010, a fundraising event in support of the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. In addition to the film screening, fans will be encouraged to dress like their favorite characters and compete for prizes in Lebowski trivia and lobby games. Doors open: 6 p.m. Tickets: $10. SPA award

-- From Ulland Foundation: The Summer Performing Arts program has announced a $525 award from the Ulland Foundation for student scholarships for the 2010 season. The Ulland Foundation contributes to and promotes healthful lifestyles in our community. SPA is a Grand Forks Public Schools program that involves more than 1,100 K-12 students each summer.
