'Nutcracker' auditions
- Sept. 17 in Grand Forks: Moscow Ballet and Dance Etc! will have open auditions in Grand Forks for dancers from ages 7 to 16 to perform side by side with 40 Russian professionals when they present "Great Russian Nutcracker" on Nov. 30 at the Chester Fritz Auditorium, Grand Forks. Auditions will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at Dance Etc!, 899 Second Ave. N., Suite G. Applicants must have dance training, dress in dance attire and may bring pointe shoes. Library Card Month
- September at Grand Forks Public Library: As students head back to school, Grand Forks Public Library wants everyone to have the most important item to compete academically -- a library card. September is Library Card Sign Up month. To get a library card, bring a photo ID and proof of address to Grand Forks Public Library. Library cards are free for in-county patrons; for out-of-county patrons, the fee is $15 per year, $10 for six months or $5 for three months. Info: (701) 772-8116. Fathom Film Festival
- First Friday in Bemidji: Saarens Productions will host the second annual Fathom Film Festival in Bemidji featuring films from local, regional and national filmmakers. Each first Friday of the month beginning in October, submitted films will be shown, and the audience will choose which films will compete in the Fathom Film Festival, set for April 20-21. "Best of Festival" and "Critic's Choice" each will be awarded a $100 prize. Entry fee: $10. Send submissions to: Saarens Productions, 508 Woodland Ave. S.W., Bemidji, MN 56601.
