- Feb. 6 at NDMOA: The annual North Dakota Museum of Art Gala Benefit Dinner and Silent Art Auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the North Dakota Museum of Art galleries on the UND campus. This prominent social event and fundraiser for the museum is black-tie optional and valet service is provided. Tables seat eight and arrangements can be made for parties to be seated together. Writers Conference 101

- Sunday at UND: Writers Conference 101 is a chance for people who plan to attend the 41st annual UND Writers Conference March 23-27 to discuss the visiting authors and their works. Sunday it will meet from 2 to 2:30 p.m. for a discussion of new media poet Deena Larsen in the New Media Center of UND O'Kelly Hall Room 203. Discussion leader: Nancy Devine. - Two events moved to Monday: Two events that had to be rescheduled because of the Jan. 25 blizzard have been moved to Monday. Band concert

- Monday at RRHS: The Grand Forks Red River High School Winter Band Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the school. It features the Varsity Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Band. The program will include "American Fanfare," John Wasson; "Malaguena," Ernesto Lecuona, arranged by Sammy Nestico; "Concertino," Cecile Chaminade, featuring Leo Thorp, flute soloist; "The Symphonic," by Gershwin, arranged by Warren Barker; and "The Fairest of the Fair," John Philip Sousa. Conductors: Bruce Morlock, Chris Larsen, student teacher Thomas Jankowski. Admission: Free.

South Point program

- Thursday in East Grand Forks: South Point Elementary School in East Grand Forks will present its annual fourth-grade program on Thursday. Called "Ten Who Counted -- Influential African Americans you might not know," it is being produced in honor of African American History Month and directed by Annette Hovey. Program times: Arnason and Leigh's classes, 1:15 and 6 p.m.; Olstad, Ronkowski and Frydenlund's classes, 2 and 7 p.m. Admission: Free.

Dallas Brass

- Feb. 5 in the Chester Fritz: The Dallas Brass, a musical ensemble founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, features a full complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through American history from George Washington to the present day. It will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 in UND's Chester Fritz Auditorium, Grand Forks, with a program selected from the masters: Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Berlin and Sousa. "A Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family," Levine said in a news release." - Entry deadline Feb. 19: East Grand Forks Campbell Library is seeking poetry submissions for the 2010 Poetry Contest sponsored by Monarch Travel of East Grand Forks. Northern Exposures

- Photography contest: East Grand Forks Campbell Library is seeking photographers to submit work to its Northern Exposures Photography Contest. All entries must be original work by the artist and entries must be at the library no later than 8 p.m. Feb. 11. The Northern Exposures exhibit will be juried for prizes and will be exhibited at the library from March 1 through April 3, with an opening reception from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 1.
