Polka Fest

Walla Theatre

- Renovation grant under way: The Gorge Arts and Heritage Council of Walhalla, N.D., has received a $20,000 matching grant from the North Dakota State Historical Society to restore the historic Walla Theatre in Walhalla. The Walla Theatre, constructed in 1949 and closed in 1982, had slowly fallen into disrepair. Then, in 2007, the Gorge Arts and Heritage Council secured the title and began working through the Saving Walla Theatre Project to make it a performing arts theater and cinema, a news release said. The plan is to host year-round events and to provide a stage for the Walhalla school. The grant will be used for repair and stabilization of the roof.
Chamber Orchestra
- Tuesday at UND: The UND Chamber Orchestra and Conductor Alejandro Drago will present their first concert of the season at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Josephine Campbell Recital Hall, UND Hughes Fine Arts Center. - Tuesday at Kem Temple: The Red River High School Concert Choir and Madrigal will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kem Temple, Grand Forks. Madrigal program: "All Ye Who Music Love"; "Laudibus in Sanctus," a Renaissance setting of Psalm 150; "Words," jazz arrangement. Concert choir: "MLK," a U2 arrangement dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr., solo by Brent Shrum; "There Will Be Rest," a setting of a Sara Teasdale poem; "Dawn," an unpublished manuscript by Bemidji State University grad Eric Barnum conducted by student teacher Ashley Sands; "Death Shall Not Destroy"; "Light of a Clear Blue Morning," an arrangement of a Dolly Parton song; "A Benediction," the traditional close to Red River concerts.
