North Valley Arts Council has selected Angela Vrolyk and Lucas Nelson, two Grand Forks high school students, to have work in the Arts Awards and Silent Auction on Thursday night next to the work of more than 20 regional artists.
Vrolyk, 14, a sophomore at Red River High School, moved to the U.S. from Ontario when she was 3. Nelson, 14, a freshman at Central High School, uses his interest in both reading and sports as a catalyst for his artwork, a news release said.
The annual Arts Awards and Silent Art Auction will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Empire Arts Center. The silent auction will offer quality ceramics, paintings, photography and other quality art pieces by area artists at reasonable prices. Beginning bids on some pieces are as low as $30.
The participating artists are Al Boucher, Michelle Brusegaard, Sheila Dalgliesh, Connie Hodgson, Eric A. Johnson, Chuck Kimmerle, Eunice Renee Kuhn, Irene Legend, Charlotte Lewis, Brett Lysne, Donald Miller, Jessica Mongeon, Karla Nelson, Susan Nord, Xavier Pastrano, Punchgut, Jenn Steinbrink, Marlene Stiles, Maria Thompson, Lance Thorn, Jackie Uthus, Andy Van Schyndle, Dave Vorland and Kimberly Forness Wilson.
NoVAC will pair Vrolyk and Nelson with experienced artists as mentors as part of an initiative to provide emerging artists with a professional arts experience.
