Season of summer concerts

The North Dakota Museum of Art in Grand Forks is planning another season of summer concerts in the Sculpture Garden, an opportunity for lovers of music, art and the outdoors to bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening's entertainment.

Supper will be for sale with NDMOA Chef Deb Douglas running the barbecue grill. Beer and wine will be served. Season tickets will be $25. Admission at the events will be $7 for adults and free for children 12 and younger.

In case of bad weather, the concerts will be moved into the museum galleries.

Sponsors of the summer concert series are Canad Inns, Summit Brewing and HB Sound and Light. Supporters are Rite Spot Liquor Store Inc., Economy Plumbing and El Roco.

- June 30, 7 p.m., Brass Kings. The Brass Kings play their old-time instruments in unexpected ways, with metal-bodied resophonic guitars, washtub bass and washboard, as they perform old-time, Middle Eastern and bluegrass music. Their debut CD "The Brass Kings" made several Top 10 lists of best CDs of 2006. Their latest CD, "Washboard Rope Guitar," made a Minneapolis Star Tribune Top 10 list in 2008. Bonus: Punchgut Studio of Fargo will be selling original posters, limited edition prints and artwork.

- July 7, 6 p.m., Charlie Parr. Opening: North River Ramblers. Parr grew up in Austin, Minn., in a house filled with music and picked up the guitar when he was about 8. A self-taught musician, he earned a degree in philosophy and became an outreach worker for the homeless, working for The Salvation Army in Minneapolis.

- July 21, 6 p.m., Knick Knackerson and the Minglers. Opening: Luie Lopez III. A blend of updated roots, rock and country, Knick Knackerson & the Minglers are a Winnipeg-based music outfit with a constantly changing lineup. Lopez will perform his original acoustic songs.

- Aug. 4, 7 p.m., GreenMan Band. GreenMan centers its music in the traditional Celtic music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany, melding traditional influences with contemporary arrangements.

- Aug. 25, 7 p.m., Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome. Back for its third year, the 12-piece Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome is Fargo's hottest classic rock/horn band.
