The East Grand Forks Heritage Foundation is hoping for better luck Sunday, the day of its 14th annual Heritage Village Christmas Festival in East Grand forks, than it had in 2008 when its annual event was stormed out by a blizzard.
The weather was so bad last year, not even the reindeer made it to town. But festival organizers have invited back some of the reindeer from the Vern Hoselton Reindeer Ranch near Drayton, N.D. The small, strong creatures -- who in their magic reindeer form pull Santa's sleigh each Christmas Eve -- will be at the festival from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The festival will be from 1 to 4 p.m., and admission will be free, with donations gratefully accepted, organizers said.
In addition to visiting the reindeer, visitors can enjoy hay rides with old-fashioned ornament-making for children, guided by members of the East Grand Forks 4-H Club.
Dakota Science Center's robotics team will demonstrate its robots. The Northern Lights Miniature Railroad Club will display its trains, and there will be Christmas music in the village church plus homemade cookies, cocoa and coffee.
