Rehearsals are in full swing in Pekin, N.D., for the comedy/mystery "Veronica Cory" to be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Pekin Auditorium.
This will be the first community theater production for the Nelson County Arts Council. The "Veronica Cory" cast is working under the direction of Gene Gunhus of Pekin, a news release said.
The show's title character, played by Emily Altendorf, is a social worker set on housing the homeless in her zany rock-chic way. Her primary target is a bag lady and fortune teller, Madame Sultra, played by Darlene Kelly.
Veronica believes her husband was killed in an explosion two years earlier. Meanwhile, an obsessed FBI agent (Jay Breckheimer) has spent two years keeping Veronica under constant surveillance and wants to use her as a pawn to capture the ringleader of an international terrorist network, a news release said.
Other cast members are Sandy Davis, Dana Haugen, John Kelly, Tony Davis, Amy Ohnstad and Jamie Bjorlie.

Nelson County Arts Council executive director Brenda Bjorlie said the organization was lucky to have Gunhus, an experienced director, living in Pekin. Gunhus has directed plays in several North Dakota communities and school plays during his years as a music and drama teacher. Two NCAC board members with similar experience, Rita Loibl and Linda Loe, are assisting with the show.
Tickets, sold at the door, will be $10 for adults and $5 for those 12 and younger. Refreshments will be served during intermission.
