The Scandinavian Festival on June 18-19 in Roseau, Minn., will open with a variety show featuring local musicians followed by a dance featuring the Highway 11 Ramblers, organizers of the events said.
The Variety show will begin at 7 p.m. June 18 at the Roseau School theater followed by coffee and Scandinavian treats. The dance to the Highway 11 Ramblers will be from 9 to 11 p.m. at the Four Seasons Center.
Festivities will resume June 19 with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at Four Seasons Center served by the Roseau Lions Club. Artists, vendors, crafters and musicians will be on hand all day near the Roseau City Center.
Balloon twisting, games and face painting is on the agenda for kids. Local high school students will lead Scandinavian storytelling at the Roseau Museum. Author Eric Bergeson of "The Country Scribe" will sign books at Roseau City Library.
Fresh lefse will be served all day at the Four Seasons Center. The Maypole will be raised at 3:30 p.m. near the City Center with many children and adults participating in the traditional dance. A huge Scandinavian smorgasbord from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 19 will be served at the City Center by Maggie's Catering of Karlstad, Minn.

A show starting at 7 p.m. June 19 in the Roseau School theater will feature Minnesota entertainers Paul Wilson and Mary Abendroth of the group Skalmusik and the musical group The Sloughgrass Family Band. Admission is by button or $7.
