Muddy Waters Clay Center Inc. in Grand Forks is offering its first summer High School Pottery Workshop July 20-31 for teens who'd like to have a chance to work with clay and the potter's wheel.
The workshop will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be taught by Mary Kulas, who has a master's degree in fine arts in ceramics from UND. A credentialed art teacher who lives and teaches in East Grand Forks, she has extensive experience teaching art and pottery to students, a news release said.
The workshop will offer instruction on use of the potter's wheel and general pottery fundamentals. Enrollment will be limited to about a dozen students who will be enrolled in grades nine to 12 during the 2009-10 school year. No previous pottery or art experience is necessary.
The cost will be $50 and will include clay, tools, glazes, firing and other materials. A limited number of scholarships will be available for students who cannot afford the workshop fee.

Applications are available from art teachers, can be picked up at the Clay Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, or can be mailed upon request.
