They met as students at Grand Forks Central High School. They loved dancing together. And for 40 years, Bill and Barb Fahey taught dancing around the area to more than 20,000 people.
Now they are bowing out because Bill has had health issues.
Barb Fahey is moving into an area of three generations of artists and crafters. She's working with her granddaughter Kristen Berg, a junior at UND, who will be showing her photography with frames and unframed photos during the Art and Wine Walk on Saturday in downtown Grand Forks. The three generations will be displaying their work at True Colors on South Third Street.
Terri Berg, Barb's daughter, will show some framed paintings. She has just launched her own painting business, "La Touche Final." Her motto is, "I can paint your wall and then place one of my paintings on it."
Barb Fahey will be showing a collection of crocheted jewelry, hats and scarves along with beverage carriers and book covers. She recently has become a member of Pride of Dakota and plans to exhibit at the Holiday Showcase in November in the Alerus Center.

The Faheys still like to dance. He likes swing music. She does, too, and she enjoys waltzing. Dancing they have found is a cooperative thing. They do a mild version of the polka, but Barb says there are people who can go all night.
Maine and Vermont
The weekend arrives with students at elementary schools of the city dismissed at 11:20 a.m. today ... And Sioux fans are encouraged to join in the Friday lunch and talk about hockey today in the Alerus, where the food as been Grade A ... There's hockey tonight and Saturday in the Ralph, where the UND Sioux will host the red hot team from Maine ... And the hockey women will play Vermont here in afternoon games Saturday and Sunday ... The last of the Art and Wine walks for 2011 will be held downtown Saturday ... Central High School is continuing "All My Sons" in Empire Arts Center tonight and Saturday ... And "Time Stands Still" continues tonight and Saturday in UND's Burtness ... While "Bell, Book and Candle" is featured at Fire Hall Theatre ... And the Presbyterian Church will host its annual Applefest Saturday ... North Country Fiddle and Dance is holding a community Dance on Saturday in the Eagles Club in East Grand Forks ... Friends of the Library are set up for their annual used book sale this weekend.

Q. What's going on Saturday in Minto?
A. Well, the women have decided that the men have their wild game feeds, steak fries and sausage contests, and now they are going to do something. So, they are holding their second annual pie contest in the community center.
There will be pies for sale, and slices of pie, too. The pie bakers will use their profits to buy Christmas gifts for children of Minto.
Q. What do you think about while raking leaves?

A. I think about people like Bob Behm who was buried in Memorial Park this week. He was one of 16 children born to William and Alma Behm of Niagara, N.D. But he spent most of his life in Grand Forks. He loved to sing. He always had a smile. He was a manager at Hugo's and Sam's Club before a stroke took him down. The world could use more people like Bob Behm.
