It's Grand Forks vs. Fargo at Saturday's roller derby

Forx Roller Derby will host its second home bout, "Hell and High Water," beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Alerus Center, according to an announcement by the Greater Grand Forks Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a pre-bout featuring men's teams, followed by the main event in which the Grand Forks Sugar Beaters will take on the Fargo Furies. There will be concessions, merchandise, free face painting and a 50/50 raffle with proceeds donated to the American Red Cross.

Advance tickets, available the Alerus Center box office, are $12 for adults and $5 for children 3 and older. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $7 for children 3 and older. ehildren younger than 3 get in free.

The first bout, also at the Alerus Center, attracted almost 1,200 fans to see Grand Forks' newest sport.

Forx Roller Derby, a nonprofit organization, began in May 2010 when a local group launched a Facebook page seeking women interested in starting a local roller derby league. Forx Roller Derby is made up of skaters, officials and volunteers who support the Grand Forks Sugar Beaters.

The CVB is a proud sponsor, said Julie Rygg, CVB executive director.

"This group is committed to growing a strong organization which promotes recreation, fun and empowerment for women in our community," Rygg said in a news release, "while also making an economic impact by creating events that bring visitors to Grand Forks."
