Potters from Muddy Waters Clay Center, 2014 13th Ave. N. in Grand Forks, will showcase their work at the third annual Holiday Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 4 and from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 5.

The show and sale will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday with the kiln opening for the center's first-ever all-red glaze kiln firing. Construction of the kiln was funded with a grant by the Myra Foundation, the Grissom Family Trust and other donations. Copper-red colors are difficult to achieve in a high temperature gas-fired kiln, Clay President Al Boucher said.

"So, this should be an exciting event, not only for the public to see, but also for members, who have been dreaming about this since the kiln was built," Boucher said in a news release..

Even if a full kiln load of reds is not achieved, the other pots may be green, and that's a great color combination for the holidays, he said.

During the two-day event, there will be throwing demonstrations, door prizes of original pottery made by the members and food and beverages to enjoy. A one hour one-on-one throwing session will be offered by an experienced potter for a $100 contribution to the Clay Center. The pots made will be dried, fired and glazed for later pickup.

"This is a great opportunity for the community to purchase unique gifts of pottery for the Christmas season while also encouraging local artists to continue to nourish their creativity and skills," said Karla Nelson, a member of Muddy Waters Clay Center.
