The annual Christmas Open House will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Pioneer Heritage Center of Icelandic State Park, five miles west of Cavalier, N.D.
The center will have lights and decorations throughout and more than a dozen Christmas trees decorated for the theme Christmas Traditions. The display will feature an Icelandic Christmas Tree and some unusual homemade wooden Icelandic Christmas trees, a news release said.
A program at 2 p.m. in the center's new meeting room will feature Christmas music by the North Valley Community Men's Choir and a trio consisting of Laurel Crosby, Tiffany DeMars and Janna Robinson. Curtis Olafson will sing an Icelandic Christmas carol and Mike Olafson will enlighten the audience with some Icelandic Christmas traditions. Coffee, cider, a sample of smoked lamb on home-baked bread snacks and other Icelandic treats will be served.
Santa will visit from 1 to 3 p.m. and will be available for photographs. Free horse-drawn wagon rides (or sleigh rides if there's snow) will be available outside the Heritage Center from 3 to 5 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Northeastern North Dakota Heritage Association and Icelandic State Park. This event is also the Park's Visitor Appreciation Day, so admission is free.
