COTTAGE GROVE, Minn.
Ablaze in Christmas lights, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled into Cottage Grove, one of the event's most popular stops on Sunday, drawing an estimated 5,000 or more in Cottage Grove for the occasion.
It marked the return of what has become a bona fide Christmastime tradition in Cottage Grove - and one that Canadian Pacific officials have said is among the largest of 150 stops on the Holiday Train route through Canada and the northern United States.
Last December's blizzard canceled the 2010 Cottage Grove event. On Sunday evening, thousands turned out for the train's 45-minute stop to wave glow sticks, listen to musicians perform Christmas tunes and help raise much-needed funds for the Friends in Need Food Shelf in St. Paul Park.
The Holiday Train's scheduled stops this week include the Canadian Pacific Depot/City Hall at Thief River Falls at 8 p.m. Wednesday and the the CP Depot at Harvey, N.D., at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

This year's U.S. entertainers include guitarist singer-songwriter Willy Porter, a multiple-time visitor to Grand Forks in recent years as part of a master guitarist series sponsored by guitar-maker and plastic surgeon Kevin Muiderman.
