ST. PAUL
"California Gurls" hitmaker Katy Perry will return to the Twin Cities on July 9 to headline the Xcel Energy Center. Tickets are $47 and $25 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 through Ticketmaster.
The 26-year-old California native grew up in an evangelical household and initially pursued a career in contemporary Christian rock, releasing a gospel album as Katy Hudson in 2001. But she took a decidedly racier turn in 2008, when her debut pop single "I Kissed a Girl" topped the charts around the world.
No one-hit wonder, Perry has since returned to the charts with a string of smashes, including "Hot n Cold," "Waking Up in Vegas," "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream." She's nominated for four Grammy Awards, including album of the year for her most recent disc, 'Teenage Dream.'
In other Twin Cities concert news, reunited alt-rockers the Pixies will return to Roy Wilkins Auditorium on April 24. The $40 tickets will go on sale at 11 a.m. Jan. 29 through Ticketmaster. After a successful underground run in the late '80s and early '90s, the Pixies unexpectedly reunited in 2004. They performed their first show together that year at the Fine Line Music Cafe and returned months later for two shows at Roy Wilkins.
