The 29th annual Prime Steel car show will open at 9 this morning at Purpur/Gambucci Arena, running until 9 tonight and then resuming Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Organizers are expecting about 90 vehicles to be displayed, including custom cars, a few street rods and motorcycles, and tuner cars. Judges will rate cars in about 40 categories and give first, second and third places where warranted.
Admission will be $8 for adults with children 12 and younger free when accompanied by a parent.
The show is sponsored by the Prime Steel Car Club, founded in 1961 after car enthusiasts got together in someone's basement to see if there was enough interest to start a club. The club was incorporated in 1982 and the first car show was in Purpur Arena. Over the years, shows have been held in the South Forks Plaza Pavilion, Eagles Arena, and Alerus Center.
Proceeds from the car show go to local charities. The car club sponsors the event in conjunction with the Grand Forks Park Board.
