Downtown Grand Forks will be under a zombie invasion this weekend.
The fourth annual Zombie Music Fest will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Muddy Rivers Town House Hotel, 701 1st. Ave. N. Admission to the event costs $5.
Zombie Music Fest is an event that combines music, food and Halloween fun. This is the fourth year that the Northern Valley Arts Council will be hosting the zombie-themed event, but this will be the first year that there will not be live music from local bands. Instead, a live DJ will entertain those in attendance.
Leighann McKenzie, who is helping to organize the event for NoVAC, said the change was made to do something different and improve the event.
“We wanted to do something to reach out to the dancing crowd,” McKenzie said. “We thought this was a fun idea.”
She said the change toward a DJ was part of the evolution of the event, which first started in Town Square but has since moved indoors.
Zombie Music Fest has been a popular seasonal event in Grand Forks over the past few years. McKenzie said the event typically draws 500 or more attendees.

Along with music, Zombie Music Fest will also include food, a bar and a zombie makeup station. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes, but they are not required.
On the same day, NoVAC will also host Kids Zombie Fest at the same location from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will feature a Halloween movie and a costume contest for children. Admission to the children’s event is free.
