The UND Wind Ensemble and University Band will present a combined concert, under the direction of James Popejoy, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Chester Fritz Auditorium.
The University Band will open the concert with “Emblem of Unity,” by J.J. Richards, followed by Gustav Holst’s “Second Suite in F,” one of the most beloved pieces in the band repertoire, Popejoy said.
Also on the program are the contemporary suite, “Declaration, Ballade and Finale,” by Ed Huckeby, and a transcription of Reinhold Gliere’s “Russian Sailors’ Dance.”
The Wind Ensemble will perform “Blue Sky Day,” a contemporary work by Timothy Mahr, and Mark Hindsley’s transcription of the overture from Mikhail Glinka’s opera “Russlan and Ludmilla.”
The group also will present “October,” by Eric Whitacre, an award-winning band classic, “Symphonic Suite,” by Clifton Williams, and “Festivo,” by British composer Edward Gregson.
