Siblings Julianne and Derek Hough brought their Move Live on tour show to the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Sunday night.
The show, which Julianne described as “a rock concert for dance,” got the crowd of around 3,000 people up and moving with the brother and sister duo, who are both professional dancers on ABC’s hit television show “Dancing with the Stars.”
The dance show featured a complete stage production, sets, costumes and a cast of talented dancers backing up the Houghs. The performers danced solo, duet and group dances in styles ranging from ballroom dancing to hip-hop. The show incorporated a wide-variety of music in the dances including Pharrell William’s “Happy,” Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” and Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.”
About 3,000 tickets were sold for the show, according to Lance Johnson, the arena’s marketing manager. Johnson said that was about on par with what the Move tour had done at other stops.
Anne and Ben Defoe, of Winnipeg, made the drive to see the performance. The couple said they are big fans of the shows and have seen every season.
“It’s great to come and see them dance in person,” Anne Defoe said. “We’ve been watching them for all of these years on TV, and now to see them in person is really incredible.”
Patti Wilson, of Crookston, brought her two daughters, who are both involved in dance, to the show. Wilson said she hoped the show would inspire her daughters with their dancing.
“Me and my daughters absolutely love to dance, so this is hopefully something that will motivate my girls in the future,” Wilson said.
Derek Hough is an Emmy Award-winning choreographer and the winningest champion in the show’s history.
Julianne Hough has found success in film, television and music. She’s a two-time professional champion on “Dancing with the Stars” and starred in the movies “Burlesque” and “Rock of Ages.”
