North Country Fiddle and Dance, a local group that holds community dances, will continue their 25-year tradition this weekend.
The dances are open to all ages, and many different types of dances are taught at the event, said Jeanne O’Neil, organizer of the event.
Dancing will take place from 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday at the East Grand Forks Eagles Club. The Community Barn Dance is sponsored by the East Grand Forks Arts and Crafts Council. Donations will be collected at the door for admission.

There will be traditional community dances with music provided by Bootlicker Old Time String Band from Minneapolis. The event will feature dances such as North American folk and barn dances, longways reels, circles and simple squares.
O’Neil said dancing is a great way for people to find a commonality with one another.
“I love music, dancing and the way it brings people together,” O’Neil said. “It’s like magic.”
She said the larger events that the organization throws will have more than 100 people, many of whom may not have dancing experience. To combat that, there will be people teaching the dances to those who don’t know them.
“There aren’t many dances around here, so if someone is looking to get started with dancing, this is a great opportunity,” she said.
