Master Chorale to present jazz concert Friday at Town Square

Singers to perform pop, jazz and folk music at outdoor event

The Grand Forks Master Chorale will present an upbeat performance of jazz music at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 4 at Town Square.

The event, titled “Jazz on the Square,” will feature contemporary pop-jazz music by artists such as Pentatonix and The Real Group, along with pop and folk music by The King Singers and Voces 8.

Advance tickets are on sale at and may be purchased at the gate under the paddlewheel at Town Square. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students with ID.

Guests are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.

The Master Chorale, which is best known for presenting choral music in church settings, usually devotes one concert each year to the performance of a collection of fun, yet challenging songs that showcase the talent of its members.

This Friday’s concert, designed to welcome the public home, is an opportunity to enjoy a collection of songs that are inspiring and upbeat, with a little twang, said Dean Jilek, artistic director.

The Master Chorale “will be performing a different style of music, different from our usual quality repertoire,” Jilek said. The concert “will be a great way to begin the summer plans.”

Town Square is located on DeMers Avenue and Third Street. Even with the closure of Third Street, south of DeMers, plenty of convenient parking is available, said Susan Caraher, executive director of the Grand Forks Chorales, adding that concert-goers may visit for a map.
