Dear Shirley,
I'm not sure what time the CBS "Sunday Morning" show comes on your television in Tucson. Around here, it is 8 a.m. And this Sunday, they will be showing and talking about their visit to Grand Forks last week. Bill Geist was here asking questions.
It was awesome, Shirley, being followed around by the CBS crew. People at the bridge game at Eagles Crest and the basketball game at UND were just great.
It will be fun to see what shows up. I could never have dreamed all that has happened since my Olive Garden review went viral in March of 2012.
But life goes on. Today I have been invited to sign my book, "Grand Forks" in the lobby of Altru Hospital between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The last leaves of summer are blowing around. And somewhere in Grand Forks there is a nice yard cleaning crew that swept up a big pile of my leaves and didn't leave a bill.
Now I sit with a pen in my hand, waiting to pay up!
Cool days
We have cool winds and breezy days with hints of snow. And I see you are running in the 60s and 70s in Tucson this week. Do you spend much time out by the pool at your place?
I was at the soup supper at St. Michael's Church Monday and visited with a woman named Shirlene. She asked if I thought she would be eligible if there is another Shirley luncheon.
Well, I told her I think that is close enough.
This soup supper they have at St. Mike's with all the soup bowls is a great event. Well organized. Our mayor, Mike Brown, was among the people who made soup. His specialty is chili, and it tastes so good on a cold evening.
Soup goes pretty well on these cool days. And so does pumpkin pie.

P.S. One of Central High School's Hall of Famers for basketball died recently in Redding, Calif. He was George Swendiman, and he was married to his high school sweetheart, Marian Foley. She died in 2012. He was a physician who ended up his career in Redding.
The Swendimans were among the people who often came back to Grand Forks. People leave, but they return. I guess it's because though things change they treasure memories of Grand Forks.
