The African Children's Choir performs at 7 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. Ninth St., Grand Forks.
The singers, ranging in age from 8 to 11, will present a concert of well-loved children's songs, traditional spirituals and gospel favorites, accompanied by ethnic instrumentation. Many of the children have lost one or both parents as a result of war, famine and disease.
The choir has sung with artists such as Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey and Annie Lennox, and performed for heads of state-most recently for England's Queen Elizabeth II at her diamond jubilee celebration.
The choir is sponsored by Music for Life, an organization that supports education, relief and development programs in African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.
The concert is free. A free will offering will be taken.

The community is invited to the North Dakota Museum of Art from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday to experience an "immersive" exhibition, "Into the Weeds," and a display of paintings by Marley Kaul titled "Meditation Suite."
Enjoy a rootbeer float-a museum specialty-and take a guided tour of "Barton's Place," a re-creation of Barton Benes' Manhattan apartment, an exhibit of his artworks as well as pieces he collected from artists and friends. Benes died in 2012.
Museum staff will provide insights on the exhibits and artifacts, including African and Egyptian art. Music will be provided by Thomas Anderson, UND music instructor.

Head to Stump Lake Village, south of Lakota, N.D., on Sunday or Monday for the 22nd Annual Steam Threshing Bee.

A special feature will be the Tri-State Vietnam Memorial Wall, with names of soldiers from North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.
It's a great opportunity to see old-time harvesting practices, as well as demonstrations of grain threshing, blacksmithing, flour-milling and a steam-driven sawmill.
At the event, hosted by Nelson County Historical Society, you'll find plenty of kids' activities and entertainment by Robby Vee, Sayler's Starburst Band and the High Plains Trio.
Enjoy a craft show, food vendors, tours of the historical village and daily parades featuring Massey Harris tractors.
Come hungry. A hearty Thresherman's Breakfast-pancakes, eggs, hash browns, sausage, juice and coffee-will be served from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.
