Buddy the Elf is coming to Grand Forks.
“Elf: The Broadway Musical” will come to Grand Forks at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on UND’s campus. Tickets to the show range from $35 to $55 for adults.
“Elf: The Broadway Musical” is based on the film starring Will Ferrell that has become a modern Charismas classic.
Sam Scalamoni, the musical’s director, said it includes all of the memorable moments from the movie, including decorating the department store, Santa’s sleigh flying and Buddy eating maple syrup. There are, however, key differences between the play and the movie, including the most obvious being the performance is a musical.

Scalamoni said it’s a nice challenge to be able to perform a well-known work because it allows him, as a director, to pay tribute to the movie and add his own perspective.
“It’s like going to a concert to see your favorite musician,” Scalamoni said. “You want to see the greatest hits, but you also want to see them play songs off their new album.”
The show in Grand Forks will be the premiere performance on the national tour of “Elf: The Broadway Musical.” Scalamoni said it will be fun to be able to bring the story and show to towns across the country.
“It’s a funny script and it reminds you that Christmas and the holidays are meant to be spent with family and loved ones,” he said.
