Awesome Authors is a summer school creative writing class offered by the Grand Forks Public School District. Ms. Laura Knox teaches the class, for students in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Class members participate in writing projects, art projects, field trips, and a class blog, which can be found at: www.classblogmeister.com/
blog.php?blogger_id262314 or by searching Laura Knox Awesome Authors.
Each summer, Awesome Authors students tour the Grand Forks Herald offices. They visit with many Herald staff members to learn about their jobs. This year, the Awesome Authors were invited to write reviews of some of the new and/or popular children's books from their school library. They were thrilled to have this opportunity to share a writing project and the pictures they drew to accompany their reviews.
Accent will be highlighting their book reviews and their illustrations over the next eight weeks. Be sure to check Accent on Books each Sunday for more book review and illustrations from our very own area Awesome Authors.

• Book Title: "Chicken Big"
• Author and Illustrator: Keith Graves
A big chicken hatched from an egg. The little chicken said compliments. The little chicken measured him. Another chicken thought he was a cow! The little chickens thought he was a squirrel. When Chicken Big found out he was a chicken, he got in the little chicken coop and snored. A little chicken thought he sounded like an elephant.
I liked this book. I would recommend it for other kids. Chicken Big is so big!
-- Makayla Knox, age 7
Everyone did not know that Chicken Big was a chicken. They kept calling him names of other animals and things, like a cow and an umbrella. I liked this story because it was funny. I liked all of the funny parts. I think other kids would like it too because it's funny.
