3 out of 5 stars.
As much as I’d love to go to the Olympics, I’ve accepted the fact that it’s not going to happen. Unfortunately, I’m also not able to glue myself to the TV 24/7 until the closing ceremony. But, with the help of the NBC Olympics Highlights app, I’m able to track the medal count and keep up-to-date on all my favorite Olympians.
The free app for Android and iPhone puts all the 2014 Sochi Olympics coverage at your finger tips with news, videos, photos and a live blog. The app also includes live streaming schedules and TV listings so you don’t miss your favorite sports.
From the home screen, users can view top videos, results and medal standings. But, clicking a specific sport allows you to dig deeper, viewing each athlete’s biography, medal count, events, results and time of competition.
In the video section, you’ll find highlight clips and interviews.

Unfortunately, the photo section isn’t as helpful. Studio photos of athletes posing with puppies and making countless silly faces isn’t exactly what I was expecting or hoping for in an Olympic photo gallery. While there are galleries of athletes actually competing in their sports, it’s not the majority. So, if you’re just looking for exquisite Olympic photos, I’d look elsewhere.
Another downfall of the app is its lack of live streaming and its abundance of ads. But, if you’re simply looking for a quick on-the-go update of Olympic news and the medal counts, NBC Olympics Highlights app is a quick solution.
