FEBRUARY 9, 2021
President Brian Willis called the regular meeting of the Thompson Public School Board of Directors to order at 6:30 am on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Deb Kolling, Nick West, Brian Willis, Monica Norby and Jon Wolfgram were in attendance establishing a quorum. Others present: John Maus, Superintendent; Jason Schwabe, Secondary Principal; Cassie Brown, Elementary Principal; and Charla Peterson, Business Manager. Brady Schwab, Athletic Director, arrived at 6:50am to present the AD report.
Moved, seconded to approve the agenda. MC
Moved, seconded to accept January 12, 2021 regular meeting minutes. MC
Moved, seconded to approve payment of the Schedule of Bills/PCard Statement presented in the amount of $474,746.85. MC
General fund, activity, and the hot lunch reports were discussed.
Superintendent, Secondary and Elementary Principal, AD reports reviewed.
Finance Committee met February 4. Mr. Maus and Mr. Willis gave the committee a summary of bid openings. Elementary gym renovation will begin April 30th. Committee recommended moving forward with storage shed behind bus garage and recommended adding another section of elementary and FACS to be a F/T position.
Other committees did not meet. Negotiations committee will meet week of February 15th.
No correspondence.
Students from Mrs. Binkley's 4th grade class read their persuasive letters to the board.
Long-range facility, health & safety, and distance learning plans were discussed.
Discussed voluntarily extending the FFRCA which expired 12/30/2020 and not mandated by government to extend beyond this date. After member Norby's discussion with NDSBA, board recognized pandemic continues and the entire staff/student population not vaccinated. Moved, seconded to voluntarily extend FFRCA as stated in original document to May 25, 2021 with the 2 weeks cumulative from the start of the Act. MC
Moved, seconded to approve two open enrollments from Emerado Public School to TPS. MC
Moved, seconded to approve the 2021-2022 school calendar. MC
Approval of construction contracts tabled to a special board meeting to be held week of February 15th. When date/time confirmed, will be posted on school website.
Moved, seconded to approve annual school board election date of June 8, 2021 from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm at the TPS library. MC
Moved, seconded to approve the TEA Petition for Recognition. MC
Moved, seconded to approve resignation of Aleta Krack, FACS teacher, at end of 2020-21 school year. MC
Moved, seconded to adopt the resolution authorizing and establishing the terms of limited tax school building fund bonds, series 2021, creating a sinking fund therefor, and pledging taxes for their payment. MC
Next regular school board meeting will be Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 6:30 am in the school library.
Moved, seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:49 am. MC
