The Tax Equalization meeting of the City of Thompson, County of Grand Forks, North Dakota, was held April 6, 2020 at 7:00 PM. Council President Larimer, Council members Majkrzak (via speakerphone), Hughes, City Administrator, and Public Works were present. Mayor Sporbert, Council member Fretheim, City Auditor, COP, and Plant Services were absent.
Council President Larimer called the Tax Equalization meeting to order at 7:00 PM. He turned the floor over to Grand Forks County Assistant Tax Director Shellie Smette.
Assistant Director Smette reported there was no across the board increase for residential lots and structures. The county is trying to get away from that. The percentage of increase or decrease is based on the type of home/structure's market values from their sales ratio study. Agricultural land received zero increase. There was a 3% increase across the board for Commercial Property. The annexation of the convenience store owned by Eastdale, LLC also contributed to the commercial value increase. Once all values are approved by the city, county, and the state, the county website will be updated. In the meantime, any questions may be directed to the Grand Forks County Tax Director's office.
Council member Hughes motioned to approve the 2020 values as presented by Assistant Director Smette. Council member Majkrzak seconded the motion. All said aye. The motion carried.
