The Grand Forks Police Department investigated a possible threat of violence at a local high school but determined it appears to have originated at a school by the same name in another state.

The GFPD issued a statement early Saturday morning, saying officers were made aware of the threat "of future violence at Central High School."

However, the GFPD reports, "at this time, the message appears to have originated from another Central High School in another state. That jurisdiction is aware of the message."

The threat originated on Snapchat, a social media site.

Although it appears to be focused on a school elsewhere, the GFPD said it remains an open investigation and urges anyone with information to contact local police at 701-787-8000, through the GFPD's Facebook page or website, or via the Tip411 app.
