Grand Forks police are investigating a deadly shooting.
Officers were called to the 1300 block of Eighth Avenue North just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, for a suspicious person, according to a news release from the GFPD.
When officers arrived, they saw a man and woman arguing inside the home.
They then heard a gunshot and a woman came out of the home and collapsed.
She was transported to the hospital, where she later died.
"There was a female who exited the residence who fell to the ground, (officers) saw that there was some injuries to her and they immediately started rendering aid," Grand Forks Lt. Jeremy Moe. "Paramedics were called to assist in that and she was transported over to Altru hospital."
Police then say 26-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Abdullahi surrendered without incident.
"On his own accord, (the man) exited of the building as well, and was contacted by officers and subsequently placed in the custody," Moe said. "He was cooperative upon exit with officers."
He was booked on charges of manslaughter, felon in possession of a firearm and theft of property.
Police believe Abdullahi and the woman knew each other, but to what extent is still unknown.
The woman's name is being withheld until her family is notified.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Grand Forks Police Department with the assistance of the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Anyone that may have information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Grand Forks Police Department.
