Whiskey Jacks fall: Spearfish scored four runs in the ninth inning to down the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks 9-7 on Tuesday night in an Expedition League baseball game at Kraft Field.
Spearfish trailed 7-4 heading into the eighth inning.
The loss dropped Wheat City to 6-7 overall while Spearfish improved to 9-3. Wheat City lost its third-straight game.
Caleb McDowell and Rhett Stein led Wheat City as each went 3-for-5 at the plate. Dean Bittner and Jaxon Sorenson each added two hits for the Whiskey Jacks.
Spearfish improved to 9-7.
The Whiskey Jacks will play a noon game on Wednesday at Kraft Field against Spearfish.
Class A meet suspended: The first round of the North Dakota Class A State Boys Golf Tournament was scheduled to be played at Hawktree Golf Club on Tuesday. The weather didn’t cooperate.
Due to repeated weather delays persisting through the day and into the late evening, the first round was suspended and is set to continue Wednesday.
No players completed more than a handful of holes before the delays.
After several hours of delays and no end to the storms imminent, at 2:30 p.m., players, coaches, and fans were told to leave the golf course and that they would reassess the situation at 5:30 p.m. At that time, the weather had not improved and the first day was officially suspended.
The tournament is still scheduled for a full 36 holes. Round 1 will resume at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday. Round 2 will begin a minimum of 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first round with a tentative start time of 12:30-12:45 p.m.
