Journalist Pamela Knudson kicks off Part V of the Six Best Burgs in North Dakota and Minnesota with a look at Michigan. A package of four stories in a six-part series that began June 22, when the Herald featured Oslo, Minn., Knudson writes that, for the people of Michigan, community has become a rallying point against the coronavirus pandemic.
Knudson's visit with school superintendent Brian Clarke, of Dakota Prairie Public Schools system, revealed that busing, social distancing and class scheduling have offered challenges to district staff and students.
A final piece of the Michigan's stories includes a talk with Cindy Ritteman, who has owned and operated The Rustic Flea for about three years. Ritteman tells how she closed the store in mid-March, but found a new way to reconnect with customers on the hunt for unique, one-of-a-kind items with a story to tell.
