Community editor Sydney Mook will report on UND as it transitions from red to yellow COVID-19 pandemic safety restrictions. The safety levels serve as general guidelines for what the UND community can expect and how the university can help keep people safe during COVID-19. The levels are flexible and can change throughout the semester. The university is aiming to be at yellow by Aug. 3.

Mook also has written about Mike Poellet, who, after more than 20 years as chair of UND’s atmospheric sciences department, is handing the reins to a new leader. Poellot, who was chair of the department since 1999, has stepped down and is returning to the faculty. Gretchen Mullendore is now the new leader of the department.

Journalist Pamela Knudson will report on a new display at the Lake Region Heritage Center. The exhibit tells the story of the Devils Lake Aquanauts, a traveling water ski show. The Aquanauts, which will have its first reunion on Saturday, performed tricks and maneuvers, entertaining audiences in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Winnipeg for nearly 20 years beginning in the mid-’60s.
