Gov. Tim Walz will be in East Grand Forks on Tuesday, Oct. 29, to host a roundtable discussion with northwestern Minnesota farmers who have been unable to harvest their crops because of wet field conditions.
Walz will be joined by Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen and agricultural leaders at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, 312 Fourth Ave. North East in East Grand Forks.
Last week Rep. Deb Kiel, R-Crookston and other House Republicans sent a letter to Walz asking him to declare a flood emergency. The letter also requested the administration’s help in working with the federal government to seek a presidential disaster declaration. An executive order, together with federal disaster assistance, would give farmers access to financial assistance and assist with emergency road repairs.
