EGF Senior High
Coach: Kirk Misialek.
2018: The Green Wave finished second in the Section 8A meet behind eventual state champion Perham. At the state meet, Senior High placed sixth.
Key graduation loss: Sakariye Ismail.
Top returners: Jr. Tyson Mahar (fourth at 8A, 21st at state); sr. Cole Nowacki (fifth at 8A, 10th at state); soph. Jonathan Krueger (12th at 8A, 80th at state); soph. Dawson McDonald (36th at 8A, 164th at state).
Potential new impact athlete: Jr. Adam Johnson.
Green Wave coach Misialek says: “We’re pretty strong at the top. Cole and Tyson, I’d say, are probably two of the top 15 runners in the state. They’ve shown they can do well at big meets. They put in a lot of miles over the summer. I’m looking for big things from them. And Jonathan is a solid No. 3. But the other spots are up for grabs from among guys without a lot of varsity experience.’’
Coach: Sean Allan.
2018: Sixth at EDC Championships, 14th at Class A state meet.
Key graduation loss: Ethan Harsell.
Top returners: Jr. Adam Arnold (14th at EDC, 59th at state); fr. Quinn Roehl (25th at EDC, 81st at state); soph. Joe Williamson (33rd at EDC, 91st at state); soph. Carter Elde (51st at EDC, 118th at state); soph. Cade Halverson (72nd at EDC, 123rd at state); jr. Cael Lorenz (96th at state); soph Lane Stevens (84th at EDC, 154th at state).
Potential new impact athletes: Fr. Cayden Reed, soph. Wyatt Mutzenberger, jr. Tucker Vasichek, sr. Josh Defoe.
Knights coach Allan says: "The boys trained really well this summer. I’m excited to get to see them get out and race. I think we’ll see a lot of improvement from last season. Quinn and Cael are batting for our No. 1. They’re definitely all-conference caliber runners and they could be all-staters. Adam is right behind them. But depth is where we’ll be really strong. I think the finish order of our top five will be switching around a lot.’’
GF Red River
Coach: Richard Dafoe.
2018: First at EDC Championships, sixth at Class A state meet.
Key graduation losses: Jake Arason, Zach Simon, Thomas Hugo.
Top returners: Fr. Matthew Rongitsch (fourth at EDC, 29th at state); jr. Ryan Prusak (11th at EDC, 37th at state); soph. Hunter McHenry (12th at EDC, 52nd at state); sr. Gavin Dorsey (52nd at EDC, 61st at state); sr. Michael Bartholomew (68th at EDC, 119th at state); fr. Grant Lelm (104th at state); jr. Broden Diederich (124th at state); soph. Dameon Zenawick (58th at EDC, 99th at state).
Potential new impact athletes: Fr. Zach Kraft, fr. Jonah Dafoe, fr. Jake Jenkins, soph. Tanner Schiller, jr. Erik Stokke.
Roughriders coach Dafoe says: "We're hunting for a conference championship repeat and that's within our grasp. We have a top six that is pretty salty. Hunter is our No. 1 guy. Zenawick, Rongitsch, Prusak, Diederich and Dorsey will be in the top six, but I can't say in what order. They've worked hard over the summer and are looking very good. And we have good depth to go along with those strong individuals.''
