Coach: Nick Chine
2018 record: 13-15.
Key graduation losses: Brock Reller, Noah Chine.
Returning regulars: Coby Tweten (.402, 28 RBI), Parker Stroh (.308, 1 HR, 20 RBI), Parker Monette (.305, 17 RBI), Brenden Bethke (.279, 2 HR, 16 RBI), Drew Montgomery (.270, 11 RBI), Isaac Burger (.250, 15 RBI), Cade Barta (.220).
Returning pitching regulars: Conner Richardson (5-2, 4.46 ERA), Bethke (2-3, 2.49), Zach Vodden (2-3, 6.37).
Potential new impact players: Zach Carolin, Channing LeNoir, Jackson Haagenson, Brody Sorenson, Joey Grabanski.
Coach Chine says: "We feel really good about the quality and depth of our pitching. Conner pitched in college (at Minnesota-Crookston) this spring and we have Sacred Heart's best pitcher (Bethke), Grand Forks Central's best two pitchers (Vodden and Stroh) and Red River's best two pitchers (Carolin and Sorenson). They're all very good pitchers. Our pitching and defense will keep us in almost every game. Offensively, when we look at the spring high school seasons, we see we have potential. But hitting, that's the variable, our big question mark. We'll for the most part be a singles and doubles team. We won't be able to count on home runs to win games.''
East Grand Forks
Coach: Garret Hjelle.
2018 record: 16-13.
Key graduation loss: Dylan Selk.
Returning regulars: Cooper Holm (.466, 17 RBI), Carter Beck (.440, 18 RBI), Jake Hjelle (.411, 2 HR, 32 RBI), Alex Mushitz (.366, 23 RBI), Jake Osowski (.357, 13 RBI), Evan Estad (.276, 1 HR, 29 RBI), Coby Stauss (.275, 15 RBI), Kade Spencer (.244), Ross Corbid (.167, 11 RBI).
Returning pitching regulars: Corbid (5-0, 2.33 ERA), Osowski (4-2, 2.71), Spencer (1-2, 4.75), Victor Saucedo (5-2, 6.07).
Potential new impact players: Logan Spencer, Colton Dauksavage, Julian Benson, Kaden Robinson.
Coach Hjelle says: "Almost this whole group has played Legion ball since they were 15 years old. Our offense should be our strong point. We have hitters up and down the lineup. Jake, Evan and Coby in the middle of the lineup will give us the potential for some power. The others are good, slashing types of hitters. Our pitching staff, with the exception of a few guys, is untested. With our schedule, we could need six starters. It gets to be a lot of arms.''
