Altru Hospital in Grand Forks will now allow two visitors in its emergency and general inpatient units, among other departments.
The hospital had previously only allowed one visitor for some departments during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as of Wednesday, March 17, Altru Health System will be allowing patients to have two designated visitors in the following departments:
Emergency department.
Procedural departments (visitor must safely distance and remain in waiting room).
General inpatient units.
Clinic appointments.
Family birthing.
Visitor restrictions remain the same for the areas listed below.
No visitors allowed:
COVID-19 positive patients (including COVID-19 rule out patients).
Dialysis units.
Inpatient behavioral health.
Two designated visitors, only one visitor at a time:
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Critically ill patients.
Two visitors allowed at a time, with no designated amount:

Patients receiving end of life care or comfort care. Those visitors are still required to follow all protective measures laid out by staff.
Additionally, the hospital is keeping its mask requirements for visitors, patients and staff until further notice.
“Even where local mandates may have changed, Altru’s policy on face coverings will continue until it is determined safe to make any adjustments,” the hospital said in a press release.
