Art on the Red, an annual festival showcasing the work of regional artists, has been canceled due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The family-friendly event, sponsored by the Public Arts Commission, had been scheduled for June 13-14 at University Park.
“We strive for the best, from amazing entertainment to delicious food, and high-quality artists and crafters, and we always take into consideration the comfort and safety of our beloved guests,” said Bryan Hoime, PAC board secretary, said in a news release.
The PAC leadership determined that holding the event would not be in the best interests of the community, but the decision to cancel was not made lightly, he said.
Vendors who have been accepted into this year’s event and have paid their fees, will be guaranteed a spot in the 2021 Art on the Red, Hoime said.
Last summer, the event was moved for the first time, from the river banks in downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks, to University Park because of DeMers Avenue construction.
For years, it has been a popular destination event, offering throngs of visitors the opportunity to meet artists and crafters and purchase their artwork in an outdoor market. The atmosphere was further enhanced with various food vendors, live entertainment and activities and art projects for kids.
