A free Easter egg hunt for children 2 to 8 years of age is planned for Saturday morning at the Alerus Center. Doors open at 8 a.m. for the 17th Annual Scheel's Easter Egg Scramble, which features activities for kids.

For the egg hunt, children will be divided according to age-8:30 a.m. for ages 2 to 3; 9:30 a.m. for ages 4 to 5; and 10:30 a.m. for ages 6 to 8. Families should arrive at least 15 minutes early for the egg hunt, organizers said.

All free activities will take place on the turf in the arena, said Riley Simenson, Alerus' marketing director.

As a premier sponsor, Scheel's also will be providing yard games, samples of its brand of fudge and Dot's Pretzels, and a coloring contest to win a Scheel's gift card.

The Easter Bunny will be on hand to take photos with kids throughout the event, said Chrissy Brabandt, a store leader at Scheel's.

For a $5 entry fee to the Cities FM Fun Zone on the concourse level, guests will be served breakfast and enjoy a cupcake walk, cookie decorating and inflatable games. Admission is free for kids 2 and younger.

"We're expecting 4,000 people to attend," Brabandt said.

"It's a fun thing for kids to do with their parents, or with grandparents and aunts and uncles who are in town for Easter," she said.

The event also is sponsored by the Alerus Center and Leighton Broadcasting.
