Big band gospel singer Dave Boyer will honor veterans during a military show Saturday, July 27, at the Marshall County Fair in Warren, Minn.
The U.S.S. Marshall County Show is part of a five-hour tribute to veterans that begins with an 8 a.m. breakfast Saturday. The event, sponsored by the Marshall County Fair and Marshall County Veterans Service Office, will honor veterans across Marshall County and the surrounding area, according to a news release from the Marshall County Veterans Service office in Warren.
After the 8 a.m. breakfast, which is free to veterans, there will be a 10 a.m. veterans program in the grandstand. At 11 a.m. the U.S.S. Military Show will feature Boyer, accompanied by Dave Christianson and the Classic Swing Band, formerly the Dick King Classic Swing Band. The U.S.S. Military Show will be similar to the USO shows that used to travel the world entertaining U.S. military personnel.
Boyer will include patriotic songs in the military show, including “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful.”
“I have a deep love for veterans,” Boyer said. He performed several years ago at the Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks and is looking forward to returning to the Grand Forks area, he said.
“I love the area. It’s a great area to come back to.”
Kelsey Loeslie, a University of Kentucky student who is formerly of Grand Forks and Moorhead, Minn., will join Boyer in singing “God Bless America” and also perform a solo of “Climb Every Mountain.”
“I’m very excited to have her on the show with us,” Boyer said.
The show will be broadcast live on radio station Pioneer 90.1 FM.
