Houston artists to open show at Daktyl Tattoo Gallery

Daktyl Tattoo Gallery will open a new art show beginning Saturday.

Jessica and Beau Pope, of Houston, will have their original stencil art on display at Daktyl, in downtown Grand Forks. The gallery will have an opening event from 5:30-10 p.m. Saturday.

The show will have around 70 pieces ranging in size and price. The hope, Jessica Pope said, is to have the gallery on display for several months until the artwork is sold out. She said she wants to make this an annual event in the future.

The Popes have had galleries in and around the Houston area, but this will be their first in Grand Forks. Jessica said family members who live in the area help set them up at Daktyl.

“We’ve gotten great support from all of our friends and family,” she said. “We really wouldn’t be in this position without them.”

The couple began making stencil art in 2011, when Beau was looking for a unique way to promote an album. From there, he taught his wife how to stencil, and they have been making stencil art together since then.

“Once I saw him start doing it, I knew I had to join him,” she said.

They stencil a wide variety of different scenes and people, with Jessica mainly focusing on pop culture references and Beau stenciling many sports figures.

The gallery’s opening Saturday is free and open to the public.
