The Veterans Honor Flight of North Dakota and Minnesota is accepting applications from military veterans who served through May 7, 1975.
Vietnam veterans are especially encouraged to apply for the Honor Flight, which takes veterans on a two-day trip to Washington, D.C., to visit U.S. war memorials and other historic sites. All transportation, housing, meals, snacks, commemorative jackets and caps, and medical support are provided at no charge to the veteran.
Veterans who have previously applied for the Honor Flight and who served from 1960 through May 7, 1975, are asked to reapply.
Veterans who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness will be given priority, organizers said.
For the first time in at least 12 years, a flight is planned out of Grand Forks for Oct. 25-26, said Don Roberts, a local volunteer for the Honor Flight organization.
Honor Flights out of Fargo are planned for April 26-27 and Sept. 27-28.
Fundraising efforts in the northern Red River Valley to send veterans from this area have netted more than $100,000 this year, Roberts said.
The application for the Honor Flight is on the website, www.veteranshonorflightndmn.org .
