GRAND FORKS — A Grand Forks charity delivered thousands of donated toys to doorsteps across the greater Grand Forks area Thursday, Dec. 12, in what was their busiest day of the year.
The Santa Claus Girls and their helpers loaded up their cars and delivered to homes across Grand Forks and East Grand Forks in the hopes of making Christmas special for children in need.
"I want to help kids that don't have a gift for Christmas," said volunteer Theresa Polkinghorne. "(It) makes me feel good."
Tina Neil is the foster mother of a boy with several siblings who says some of the children she takes in have never had a Christmas.
"They've never seen or done the Santa Claus thing," she said. "Watching their eyes light up is priceless."
Thursday's delivery will go from Neil's house to each of the boy's brothers and sisters, and the deliveries didn't stop there. The Santa Claus girls brought toys to 1,200 kids.
Volunteers are done with this year's deliveries, but those who want to donate to the Santa Claus girls for next year can call 701-740-4900 or reach out to them on Facebook.
