The North Country Food Bank is hosting a grand opening event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in its new location at 1011 11th Ave. N.E. in East Grand Forks.
A program is planned for 5:30 p.m.
The public is welcome to stop in and learn more about the food bank’s work to feed more people, more effectively, said Scott Johnson, development director.
Visitors may take tours and see the renovations and remodeling that have been completed at this roughly 35,000-square-foot facility.
The grand opening, which “is long overdue,” was delayed by the COVID pandemic, Johnson said. “We are very excited ... to welcome the community to our new facility.”
The North Country Food Bank opened in this location in January 2020, taking over a space, parts of which had been rented out by different businesses and for various uses, including school classrooms after the Flood of 1997, said Kristen Duckstad, finance director.
“We took down walls and put in a cooler,” among other renovations, Duckstad said.
Before moving to East Grand Forks, for about 30 years the food bank had occupied two locations -- a main office on North Broadway and a warehouse for storage -- in Crookston, she said.
