Northlands Rescue Mission plans fund-raising events
The Northlands Rescue Mission is planning a couple outdoor events that seek to get people together for fun and relaxation while supporting a good cause.
A June 6 golf tournament begins at noon with registration at the Grand Forks Country Club, said Sue Shirek, the facility’s executive director.
“It’s called ‘The Mulligan Classic Golf Scramble’ because everyone deserves a second chance,” she said.
The event includes dinner, a program, door prizes and placement prizes
The golf tourney was held to benefit the mission in the past but was discontinued, Shirek said. It’s being revitalized as a project by a local men’s group, headed by Todd Hanson of Grand Forks, she said.
People can register for the event by May 20 as an individual golfer or as part of a four-member team.
Another event, “The Market at 1908,” on June 12, is a type of farmers-market event at the 1908 House, a wedding venue near Hatton, N.D.
The event will feature vendors, including area boutiques and “junk shop-type places” as well as home-based businesses that sell cosmetics and other products, Shirek said. The event will also feature live music and food.
The event is a first for the mission.
“We’re trying something new,” she said. “We hope to get people out there to relax and have some fun.”
Shirek is encouraging people “to go out, unwind, look at fun stuff and have fun summer evening -- and support a great cause,” she said.
Admission is $20 per person. Tickets may be purchased online, at the mission or at the event.
Funds will be used to help the mission meets its goal of helping the homeless and the hungry in this community, Shirek said.
These fund-raising events are meant to attract a younger demographic.
“Our donor base is getting older,” Shirek said. “We need to reach out to other demographics. To reach younger people, it requires catching them with fun activities that they want to participate in.”
The mission is also planning a 5K Run and 25-mile Bike Race in September.
