GRAND FORKS - The Empire Arts Center in Downtown Grand Forks is showing the film "Black Panther" as a lead up to the University of North Dakota Writer's Conference.

This year, the conference's theme is "What the Future Holds."

Organizers said Black Panther is an example of how mainstream art is evolving.

“It really gives an opportunity to explore different world views and different views of the future through a diverse lens," said Crystal Alberts, an organizer for the Writer’s Conference.

The free movie plays Friday Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.
