The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks will kick off a yearlong celebration Sunday for its 125th anniversary.

Mass will begin at 10 a.m. followed by brunch and music in the school's auditorium. Roberta Beauchamp, a member of the 125th Jubilee Committee, said Bishop Michael Hoeppner will attend and Mass will be more traditional than usual.

She said a video tracing the church's history to the late 1800s will play before and after Mass.

Beauchamp's mother and grandmother both attended school at Sacred Heart and she said the day holds sentimental meaning for her.

"It's been a part of my family for generations," Beauchamp said. "This is a very special time to celebrate with family and friends."

Other events will be held in September, March, June and August. The events include a weekend workshop, the "Find Your Greatness" event and a procession through town.

"One-hundred-twenty-five years is quite a long time! We want to remember this milestone and celebrate it throughout the year," Beauchamp said.
