Crystal, N.D., is losing its Wells Fargo bank branch Feb. 15, a spokeswoman for the company said Tuesday.
There just weren't enough customers coming through the door to justify the cost of running the branch, said Staci Schiller. She couldn't say why that might be, she said, though it could be any number of reasons from more usage of online banking, or banking by mail or banking at nearby branches.
The nearest one is to the southeast in Grafton, N.D., a town of 4,045. Crystal has an estimated population of 136.
Two employees in Crystal have been offered jobs in other areas, Schiller said.
Wells Fargo is closing several other branches in North Dakota, including Litchville and Tower City in the state's southeast and Scranton in the southwest, she said. The branch in Rothsay in northwest Minnesota also is closing, she said.
